Labor protection equipment exhibition | A Practical Guide to Scientific Eye Protection with Industrial Safety Goggles

Various industrial work scenarios, including power generation, mining, construction, and chemical processing, harbor numerous potential eye safety hazards. According to the 2025 China Emergency Management Development Report, occupational eye injuries account for 28% of all injuries in the construction industry, with most incidents attributed to the failure to wear safety goggles in compliance with regulations. Wearing compliant goggles can effectively reduce the probability of eye burn accidents in the chemical industry. The Labor protection equipment exhibition recognizes that the standardization of eye protection has become a key focus in industrial safety production.

Different industries face distinct pain points in eye protection. Arc flashes generated during high-voltage electrical work can easily cause photokeratitis (arc eye), leading to prolonged eye pain and directly impacting work progress. In underground mining environments, high concentrations of dust and hard suspended particles can easily scratch the cornea; wearing goggles in compliance with standards can significantly reduce eye exposure to dust and effectively prevent eye injuries.

High-altitude construction work carries prominent risks, as splashing concrete debris and high-speed metal fragments can easily cause contusions to the eyeball. The newly revised 2025 Construction Safety Regulations explicitly mandate that personnel working at heights must wear impact-resistant safety goggles, establishing a standardized requirement to fortify the safety defense line at construction sites.

Compliance standards are the core guarantee of goggle protective performance. China's GB14866-2019 standard defines the basic performance requirements for impact resistance and protection against chemical splashes. For high-risk scenarios such as electrical work and welding, the GB/T39819-2021 specialized standard refines arc protection indicators to meet the protective needs of special operations.

Internationally, the mainstream American ANSI Z87.1 and European EN166 standards focus on assessing product anti-fog and anti-scratch performance. Goggles certified to multiple standards offer stronger adaptability and more stable protection, capable of meeting the demands of various complex industrial work scenarios.

Different work scenarios require matching functional goggles. For construction, mining, and steel industries, full-wrap frames paired with anti-fog PC lenses are suitable, effectively resisting impacts and blocking dust. For the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, sealed frames with anti-chemical coated lenses are preferred, as they can withstand acid and alkali corrosion and block liquid splash injuries.

For high-intensity light work scenarios such as electrical work, welding, and photovoltaics, dark polarized lenses with anti-ultraviolet coatings should be selected to effectively filter harmful light. For humid environments such as automotive manufacturing and cold-chain transportation, goggles equipped with nano anti-fog coatings and breathable airflow designs are recommended to maintain clear vision over extended periods.

Scientific selection of goggles should focus on three core parameters. For impact resistance, priority should be given to products that have passed national standard testing with an impact energy of no less than 2J; for high-risk scenarios, level-four impact-resistant models may be selected. Light transmittance must reach 85% or above, with dark polarized lenses required for high-intensity light work. Additionally, goggles must possess continuous anti-fog capability for more than four hours, and chemical work scenarios also require professional anti-chemical coatings.

Proper wearing is key to ensuring protective effectiveness. Before use, inspect the lenses, coatings, and frame condition to check for damage, deformation, or other issues. Wash hands before wearing to avoid oil contamination of the lenses, which could affect protective performance and work visibility.

When wearing, adjust the frame and headband to ensure a secure fit without pressure. After wearing, test the field of vision to ensure there are no blind spots or glare. For high-altitude dynamic work, further secure the goggles to prevent them from slipping or shaking.

Routine standardized maintenance can effectively ensure protective performance and extend equipment service life. After each use, clean the lenses with a soft cloth and remove debris from frame gaps. Replace goggles immediately if lenses become scratched, anti-fog performance fails, or the frame is damaged. When not in use, store goggles in a hard-shell case to avoid crushing, scratching, or other damage.

Many workers hold misconceptions about the use of safety goggles. The anti-ultraviolet capability of lenses depends on the UV400 marking, not the color depth; in fact, light-colored protective lenses perform better in high-intensity light environments. Workers who wear prescription glasses must select over-the-glass (OTG) goggles to eliminate protective blind spots.

Safety goggles are essential equipment for industrial labor protection. Frontline workers must make scientifically informed purchases based on their work scenarios, abandon incorrect usage habits, and strictly implement the full-process standards for inspection, wearing, and maintenance. For high-risk operations, goggles can be paired with face shields and dust masks to build a comprehensive three-dimensional protection system, safeguarding occupational safety from all angles.
