Labor protection equipment exhibition | China’s First Portable Oscillating Balance Dust Monitor Enters National Standard

China’s first portable dust concentration measuring instrument based on the oscillating balance principle has been officially incorporated into the Health and Health Administrative Law Enforcement Equipment Standards. This key innovation has successfully broken the long-standing foreign technological monopoly, marking another hardcore breakthrough for Xuzhou High-Tech Zone in the safety and emergency equipment sector, and providing a localized solution for precise occupational health monitoring. This breakthrough was also prominently showcased at a recently held Labor protection equipment exhibition, drawing widespread attention across the industry.

Precise monitoring of dust concentration is a critical pillar for occupational health protection and law enforcement supervision in industries such as mining, construction, and manufacturing. For a long time, high-precision dust monitoring equipment based on oscillating balance technology had been monopolized by foreign companies, with high procurement and maintenance costs keeping core technology out of domestic hands. Zeroing in on this pain point, the research team from the School of Safety Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology devoted themselves to tackling the challenge and successfully developed China's first portable dust concentration measuring instrument employing conical element oscillating microbalance mass sensing technology. This achievement enables high-precision, on-site, and rapid dust monitoring, filling a domestic technological gap. Leveraging a university-locality collaboration and an industry-academia-research-application mechanism, Xuzhou Yusheng Safety and Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., an enterprise in Xuzhou High-Tech Zone, partnered with China University of Mining and Technology to accelerate the commercialization of this innovation. The product has obtained national coal safety certification through the company’s application, qualifying it for large-scale deployment in key industries.

Compared with traditional optical-based equipment, this domestically developed device offers remarkable advantages. Adopting a direct weighing principle, its measurement results are unaffected by dust properties or environmental conditions, with a measurement error of merely 7.5% and a sensitivity reaching 0.01 mg/m³, representing a substantial leap in monitoring accuracy. The device comes in two configurations, handheld and wearable, catering to diverse needs such as on-site fixed-point detection for law enforcement and continuous individual exposure monitoring for miners. It is broadly applicable to dust hazard sites including coal mines, metal mines, building material facilities, and construction projects, transforming what used to be laboratory weighing tests taking several days into real-time direct readings at the mine face, significantly enhancing regulatory and protective efficiency.

At present, the equipment has been advanced into industrialization by Xuzhou Yusheng Safety and Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. It has been put into operation at multiple key mines including Shigetai Coal Mine and Daliuta Coal Mine under China Energy Group’s Shendong Coal Industry, while the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Institute of Occupational Disease Prevention and Control has also adopted the device to conduct precise on-site dust exposure assessments, with its demonstration effect continuing to grow. This inclusion in the national health administrative law enforcement equipment standards serves as authoritative recognition of the technology’s advancement and reliability, opening up vast space for the promotion and application of domestic high-end safety and emergency equipment.

As the nation’s first national-level safety industry demonstration park, Xuzhou High-Tech Zone has prioritized the safety and emergency industry as a leading sector for cultivation, continuously deepening university-locality cooperation, strengthening breakthroughs in key core technologies, and refining the full chain from “research and development—pilot testing—industrialization—application demonstration.” In 2025, the output value of the high-tech zone's safety and emergency industry grew by 33.5% year-on-year, with the brand influence of China Safety Valley steadily rising. Moving forward, Xuzhou High-Tech Zone will concentrate on three major directions: mining safety equipment, emergency rescue equipment, and monitoring and early warning systems, persistently driving more bottleneck technological breakthroughs and import substitution, accelerating the construction of an internationally influential highland for safety and emergency equipment industry, and injecting stronger safety momentum into high-quality development.
